who are we? and why do you care?
Fabulous Foodie Finds (aka Jodi & Jason) are transplanted New Yorkers who love food and wine, and continue to hit the road to search for the best authentic local food finds. They are passionate about supporting and celebrating great food, independent restaurants, and innovative recipes & gadgets.
On this blog Jodi & Jason guarantee to entertain, inspire, enlighten, or at least distract you from something you "should" be doing.
Jodi grew up in a small town in Ohio. Her earliest memory is sitting on the counter “helping” her Mom make a homemade crust for a rhubarb pie (with the rhubarb picked from her backyard just a few hours before.) Going out to the garden to pick the ingredients for each night’s dinner was the norm.
Jason was raised in New York City, and his version of “going out to the garden” consisted of choosing from hundreds of independent restaurants within a few block radius, serving everything from sushi to fusion cuisine to freshly made brick oven pizza.
When the two met at Cornell University, their food worlds collided, and a whole new world opened up for each of them. The rich wine & food region of the Finger Lakes offered many new foodie adventures.
Jason and Jodi moved to New York City where their love of food was fostered by going to the hundreds of independent, ethnically diverse restaurants found all over New York. Whether it was the Lower East Side, Williamsburg, Corona, or Brighton Beach, Jason and Jodi spent a lot of time on the subway in search of the next hidden “hole-in-the wall” with spectacular and authentic food.
After living in New York City metro area for over eight years, the couple moved to Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Culture shock & language barriers ensued! In some ways it felt like a foreign land.
Now Winston-Salem residents for over 7 years, the couple have become devotees of southern cuisine: sweet tea, NC barbecue, fried okra, hushpuppies, sweet potato pie… (well, actually, sweet potato anything!)
Jason is the barbecue guru: he is a member of the NC BBQ Society, has attended "Barbecue Camp" to train under expert pit masters, and has been part of a world-class BBQ competition team. Jason has been know to drive over 300 miles in a day to taste barbecue from five or more different barbecue joints.
Jodi is the gadget guru - trust her to find something too sleek, too cool, too useful, too cutting edge, or too completely impractical for you to pass up.
Jason & Jodi are also wine aficionados and collectors. They have taught several classes on wine, and regularly attend wine & food events in the area.

Glad to see other BBQ junkies in Winston like myself. Have you tried Bibs?
Love Bibb's - have tried everything there. All the meats have a perfect combination of smoke, seasoning, and quality. My favorite is the brisket...an absolute yumm! I also like the smoked sausage very much.
Had high hopes for Honky Tonk Pig on Jonestown Rd. because the owners are award-winning competition pit masters, but I think Bibb's is better. Honky Tonk's meats were too salty, and not enough smoke for my taste.
I'm going to try to smoke up a brisket and a pork shoulder myself this weekend if it doesn't rain too much.
love the blog...the food looks terrific. Any restaurants you suggest in NYC or CT?
Deanna,
What specific types of restaurants are you looking for? We specialize in small indie places with incredible food, mostly casual, most moderately priced. Let me know if you are looking for anything specific (type of food, B L or D, snack, etc.)
